Description : Rue is a genus of strongly scented evergreen subshrubs, 20–60 cm tall, in the family Rutaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, Macaronesia and southwest Asia.

Uses : Rue essential oil may be applied to the skin. It has been used to relieve arthritis pain and also for treating soft tissue injuries such as bruises and sprains. It can be used as a disinfectant and in the treatment of boils and warts, as well as swelling that results from insect bites and stings.

Benefit : Rue essential oil is valued for its flavonoids, particularly rutin, which strengthens blood vessels. Because of these flavonoids, rue has been used to strengthen the eyes, as an anthelmintic to treat parasitic worms, and as an antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, expectorant, hemostatic and stimulant. |
